The issue is one of episcopal collegiality. It appears that the tradition flowing from the early fathers and the medieval church that a woman is incapable of receiving Holy Orders reflects biological assumptions about the nature of woman holden at Lambeth Palace in July her relation to man which are considered unacceptable in the light of modern knowledge and biblical study and have been generally discarded today. At the same time I have good reason to believe that there are various shades of opinion as to the best mode in which the connexion between the daughter Churches and their common mother can best be maintained; and I trust that the interchange of thought between those who are chiefly interested in those important questions will lead to some profitable conclusions. Among the many points of the Christian creed, which the Anglican Communion and the Catholic Church share together, is their love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God A later cablegram, from the Ecumenical Patriarch, designated him representative of the Church of Cyprus at the Lambeth Conference. Anglican Communion gathering at Lambeth Palace Thursday 12th July At a gathering for Anglican Communion guests at Lambeth Palace, the Archbishop of Canterbury expressed gratitude for the rich contribution to church life in England made by those from other parts of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

That willingness to be spent for one another; that willingness to let others flourish and rejoice because of what we do; that willingness to be there for one another, whatever happens. The bitterness expressed by women deacons has not died down in the Episcopal church as earlier chapters in this book bear witness. We respect and revere such men, and their staunch upholding of the message of Jesus as it has come down to them through the ages. The Church of Bulgaria also sent a delegate. It is evident that the rites of our own Prayer Book were, for the present, accepted as adequate by the Orthodox Delegation. London S.

The name and address of the "competent Orthodox authority" can be ascertained by writing to the Rev. After the end of the colonial era, the Anglican church continued to spread via missionary work. In fact Anglicanism, like most branches of the Catholic Church, was hesitant about admitting women to holden at Lambeth Palace in July role in the full life of the church during this period. Paul's insistence on female subordination made to enforce good order in the anarchy at Corinth is balanced by his declaration in Galatians that in the one Christ there is no distinction of Jew against Gentile, slave against free man, male against female. It is true that in the Greek Church of Constantinople accepted our Orders as of equal validity with those of the Roman Church, and that Jerusalem and Cyprus registered their agreement. Thus it will be seen that our first essay is rather tentative and experimental, in a matter in which we have no distinct precedent to direct us.

The doctrinal centralization is based on a concept and Conference of Bishops of the Anglican Communion called the Anglican Communionof which a church either is a member or is not. The bitterness expressed by women deacons has not died down in the Episcopal church as earlier chapters in this book bear witness.

No one is more jealous for the preservation of Orthodoxy, no one more zealous for the salvation of the thousands of Orthodox men and women, boys and girls in the United States of America. Dialogue of ideas would demand a frank exchange of notions on God and religion-related topics which should result in mutual respect and enrichment.

More often it is the case that an isolated Greek, Roumanian, Russian, Serb or other Orthodox comes to the priest of the Episcopal Church, or else 1897 book of our rectors finds in his parochial bounds a large group of Orthodox communicants, hundreds of miles distant from an Orthodox 1897 book.

It is especially important that this fact be brought home to the youth of Conference of Bishops of the Anglican Communion. But following the controversial decision of the Church of England's ruling body this week to ordain women as bishops without compromise measures, several Anglo-Catholic bishops may also stay away.

The Orthodox in our land desire to be real Americans. Catch that? The God who will hold back nothing to make peace, because he cannot imagine Himself as God without us. Statements: i The Council agrees to recommend once more that, where any autonomous Province of the Anglican Communion decides to ordain women to the priesthood, this should not cause any break in communion in our Anglican family.

That such Report be forwarded to his Grace the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, with the request that he will be pleased to transmit the same to all the Bishops of the Anglican Communion, and to ask for their judgment thereupon.

Interreligious dialogue can express itself in various ways: in a dialogue of life and action, of ideas and experience. Progressing through the Protestant Reformation, one finds little change in attitude or practice and it is not until modern times that the issue of the relationship of women to the threefold ministry is seriously considered.

The more Anglicans and Catholics are able to study issues together and to discern an appropriate Gospel response, the stronger will be the impact of their mission endeavours Though it be not our purpose to enter upon theological discussion, yet our very presence here is a witness to our resolution to maintain the faith, which we hold in common as our priceless heritage, set forth in our Liturgy and other formularies; and this our united celebration of offices common to our respective Churches in each quarter of the globe is a claim, in the face of the world, for the independence of separate Churches, as well as a protest against the assumption by any Bishop of the Church Catholic of dominion over his fellows in the Episcopate.

Nowhere does this meeting declare women to be deacons or to have any other ministry. However, it is not the crux of the issue since redefinition seems to indicate that becoming a deacon is not necessarily an apprenticeship to the priesthood although all those aspiring to the priesthood must first become deacons.

It is the gift of peace. Let us pray that before long, spiritual successors of the hundreds of recently martyred Russian bishops will assist in the final reunion of Anglicanism and Orthodoxy. Pray and seek for unity amongst yourselves, and amongst all the faithful in Christ Jesus; and the good Lord make you perfect, and keep your bodies, souls, and spirits, until the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

How soon things changed. With the express permission of his bishop, a priest might add to the Prayer Book services such features as may be found in "An Aid to Churchmen", by the Rev.

It was agreed by the Anglican Bishops that the "Terms of Intercommunion suggested between the Church of England and the Churches in Communion with her and the Eastern Orthodox Church," published under the auspices of the Archbishop of Canterbury's Eastern Churches Committee inthough not officially communicated to the different Provinces of the Anglican Communion, are not inconsistent with the mind and doctrine of the Anglican Church.

It is true that in the Greek Church of Constantinople accepted our Orders as of equal validity with those of the Roman Church, and that Jerusalem and Cyprus registered their agreement.

Yet these churches together do not number nearly as many Christians as those in the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches; and it would be reckless to imagine any swift change in Roman Catholic discipline and probably even more so from Orthodoxy.

Evangelization and inculturation are closely related to each other. To date no further action has been taken. The Anglican Communion Office maintains the "Instruments of Unity": The Lambeth Conference, The Primates Meeting, The Anglican Consultative Council, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, who is more the media spokesman for the church than its leader.
